Henry Clay "The Great Compromiser"

Specifically in this compromise, his rational mind allowed for the equilibrium in the senate to remain in good standing. Because of this feat, civil war was eluded, and both Northerners and Southerners were kept at bay.
- He was known as The Great Compromiser and one of his greatest works was the Missouri Compromise.

- Henry Clay of Kentucky was a a gifted conciliator. He was the one who came up with the compromise so that both the North and South would agree to it.
- The compromise last about 34 years and postponed any major conflicts between the North and South.

- On March 6, 1820. He signs the Missouri Compromise into the law.
- The bill allowed to equalize the number of slave-holding states and free states in the country, allowing Missouri into the union as a slave state while Maine joined as a free state.
Back to the Theme: James Monroe signing the Missouri Compromise into law allowed the union to keep the balance. So no side would rule the senate which would hold us over until the actual break of the union. So this law would help keep are country whole for a couple more years until we started spreading west and deciding if they were slave states or not.
